It was with great pleasure and with a sense that no one could be better deserving of this award, that we received the news in this year's Queen's Birthday honours of Wendy Oakes' Order of Australia Medal. Wendy was initially overwhelmed and stunned that she had received such an award, but this has given way to a feeling of being greatly honoured that so many people felt she was deserving of the considerable effort it required to put in a successful nomination. She has, in the couple of weeks since receiving her award, been pleasantly surprised by all the expressions of appreciation along the lines of "It couldn't be more well-deserved".
|>||Congratulations to Wendy for this truly deserving accolade. As a witness to many of Wendy's teaching and community efforts over the past 23 years - as a parent ( teaching two of my daughters Kate and Renée ), orchestra member and committee member of GVCO, I know that Australia's recognition of her commitment to the musical life of Goulburn Valley is fitting and official acknowledgement of her dedication above and beyond for our local community. So happy for you Wendy 😀
